A WARM WELCOME
April has been a busy month at Excentric. We have been making some big changes here and if you follow us on social media, you probably saw that we welcomed Kristy to the Excentric team as Technical Director. Kristy previously developed websites with Excentric from 2009-2015 and we are ecstatic to have her back. With over 15 years of programming experience, Kristy will be leading our web development team assuring quality and best practice, as well as client satisfaction.
We had Kristy answer a few ice breaker questions for this blog post to welcome her to the team and introduce her to our clients. Keep reading to learn more about our latest team member.
What’s the first career you dreamed of having as a kid?
When I try to think back, I believe the first career aspiration I had was to be an Editor. I adored reading and I thought it would be really cool to get to read books all day at work. Then our family bought a computer and my aspirations definitely changed.
What’s one thing about you that surprises people?
My education. I am such a techie and I have been programming for most of my life. When people find out that I have a Bachelor of Arts with a Law major, it usually takes them by surprise. I never pursued a career in that field but I found that the most important take-away was the ability to think and write critically – a valuable skill in any field.
What does success mean to you?
That is a good question. To me, success is really about being able to be happy on a daily basis – at work and at home. Of course, we all have bad days but life is too short to be unhappy. Personally, the thing that affects my ability to be happy are my relationships with the people around me. I read a quote from Matthew Kelly recently that really spoke to me in this regard:
“The people we surround ourselves with either raise or lower our standards. They either help us to become the-best-version-of-ourselves or encourage us to become lesser versions of ourselves. We become like our friends. No man becomes great on his own. No woman becomes great on her own. The people around them help to make them great.
We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the-best-version-of-ourselves.”
What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?
My passion – definitely. Not only do I love what I do, but I really care about the work I do, and the people I do it for. I always strive to produce the best results possible for everyone involved.
What is your favourite thing about your career?
Being in the web development world everything moves at such a quick pace. There’s never a dull moment. I love learning new approaches to old problems. Staying on top of all of the changes can be difficult but the challenge of it really drives me.
Just for fun – what are you currently watching on Netflix?
I am watching the US version of “The Office” all the way through again for the 3rd or 4th time. I don’t even know, I’ve lost track! I love the humour in that show, it always makes me laugh.
On top of being a web development guru, Kristy has deep knowledge of multi-channel e-commerce and the logistics involved. She has worked with many national retailers including Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, The Source, Walmart and Costco. She is looking forward to helping our e-commerce clients develop their own multi-channel approaches and improve their online presence.
Kristy will be working closely with me to help develop exciting new services. Give us a shout if you want the inside scoop! You can also get in touch with Kristy on LinkedIn.
